Develop in a DTAP-street

At Dolphiq we work with a so-called DTAP street. The abbreviation stands for the different environments: Development, Test, Acceptance and Production. It is a way of developing software with which we guarantee the quality and security of our web applications and systems. In this way we ensure that all developed solutions are tested and approved by the client before they are put into production ('released').

DTAP in practice

Develop

The Development ('dev') environment is the environment that our developers use to develop software. New functionalities are being built in this environment.

Test

In the Test environment ('test') software is tested before it is presented to the client. Testing is done both automatically and manually.

The Acceptance ('staging') environment is visible to the client. He can see what a release looks like here and, if everything is to your liking, agree to go live.

Production

After the client's approval, the developed functionalities can be released to the Production ('live') environment. After that they are on display for everyone to see.

Quality, safety and control

By working with an DTAP street, we guarantee the quality of our web applications. For example, newly developed functionalities are extensively tested and nothing will be put live until the client has given its approval. With this, both the developers and the client keep control over what is on the production environment. After all, every customization has gone through the entire DTAP process before it ends up on the live environment.

Advantages of DTAP

Developers work in the development environment, which is not connected to the live database. As a result, an adjustment has no direct consequences for the live system and/or for the visitor;
In the test phase, any non-functioning matters come to light before the software is shown to the client;
As a client you have control over what is transferred to the live environment. Before anything is put live, approval on the acceptance environment is required;
During a release, multiple changes can be made live at the same time. This is particularly useful if, for example, a website is part of a marketing campaign.
